Why Hydration is Important for Kids and Adults

Drinking enough water everyday is very crucial. It can help regulate body temperature, prevent infections, and it keeps your organs functioning properly. Being hydrated also helps things like sleep quality and moods. Our bodies rely on water to function properly.

Being hydrated can help improve brain functions. Water helps clean out toxins that impair brain function. Water also helps carry nutrients to the brain. Water has also shown that it has natural calming properties.

Drinking enough water will give us more energy. Dehydration slows down circulation and that affects oxygen flow to the brain. A lack of fluids can cause hearts to work harder to pump oxygen throughout the body.

Hydrating regulates temperatures better. When your body is dehydrated, it stores more heat. Drinking enough water is vital. It’s very important to drink water while exercising, because it produces sweat, which will cool the body down.

Dehydration is the leading cause of headaches. So drinking water will improve many headaches. Even a little loss of fluid can cause a headache or migraine.

How much water is needed everyday?

You need at least 8 glasses of water everyday. Certain situations will also require you to drink more water. Drink plenty of water while doing any physical activity or when it’s very hot or humid outside.

Everybody is different. How much water you need can be based on health conditions or any medications. You can talk to your doctor to create a hydration plan.

Kids aged 1-3 need around 4 drinks a day. It increases as the kids get older so kids 4-8 years old need around 5 cups a day. Older kids need around 7-8 cups a day.
